Brigid Everywhere
Elements of Philanthropy
(To add your stats, please scroll to the bottom of the page!)
A primary focus of the Sanctuary of Brigid is to encourage devotees of Brigid to follow Her example of generosity by being of service to others. Because the Sanctuary of Brigid is not currently an organization that has a physical location or that handles money directly, we choose instead to offer our ideas and suggestions for acts of service within one’s own community. Those so inclined can participate in a preferred way, send the details of their service work to us, and we will compile the statistics for sharing on our website and social media. We believe this is a great way for each person to do good works on their own patch of earth while collectively celebrating their efforts with others. This initiative to encourage service worldwide in Her name also reinforces our concept of Brigid Everywhere, as we believe the presence of our beloved goddess is felt around the world, especially through those who show their love for Her by their actions.
The Elements of Philanthropy (EOP) place each project within an element to utilize its energies to fuel and amplify the project’s goals. Participation in any of them is welcome year-round!
Fire
Art + School Supply Drive
Every year, too many parents struggle to pay for basic necessities needed by their children for school, including ever-important art supplies. This occurs in communities throughout the USA and in other countries as well. To participate in this EOP, donate art and school supplies, to the best of your financial ability, to the school or art program of your choice. Local schools and after-school programs often have a wish list, so check with them to see what is most needed.

Women + Children Outreach
Marginalized women (and their children) in a variety of difficult situations – for example, domestic violence, single parent, low-income – are always in need of support. Also, women in shelters often need clothing suitable for job interviews. To participate in this EOP, donate feminine hygiene supplies, unopened diapers and formula, women’s and children’s clothing, and other requested items, to the best of your financial ability, to preferred organizations in your community that support women and children in need. Please check with them to see what is most needed.
Earth
Blanket + Coat Drive
Homeless/unhoused populations, including children, are particularly vulnerable to extreme weather, especially in colder climates, and coverings are often needed to survive the harshest of the elements. To participate in this EOP, donate new or gently-used (and clean!) blankets and winter/rain coats in all sizes, to the best of your financial ability, to preferred organizations in your community. Please check with them to see what is most needed.

Volunteering Time + Donating Money
Time and money are valuable commodities, especially when we spend them in service to others. To participate in this EOP, volunteer as you are able with a preferred organization in your community that has need, or donate money to an organization of your choice.
Brigid’s Homeland
Back to the Source
In days of old, Brigid was revered throughout the Celtic world. This continues today, with Her best-known legends coming to us from Ireland. In considering acts of service for Brigid as a goddess and saint with devotees around the world thanks to Her traveling children, so too should we consider giving back to Her source. If you’re inclined to make a monetary donation in support of the native peoples and places of Her homeland, we encourage you to take a look at the following non-profits. To learn more about them and to make a donation directly, please visit their websites.

Know Your Charity!
No matter where you choose to donate your time, money, or goods, please do a bit of research to ensure the organization is reputable. We recommend 501(c)-designated organizations in the USA, or similarly registered organizations in other countries. All organizations should be transparent with how donations are used, including publicly available financial statements, and USA organizations should have information from IRS Form 990 available for public viewing. Regarding 501(c)3 non-profits, read Avoiding Charity Scams on Charity Navigator, and check out Questions to Ask Charities Before Donating, also on Charity Navigator, for more information.
Bottom line: Know your charity!
